Harvesting at the Market

Well it is time.  The eighteen weeks of summertime  good eatin’s, at the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market, is wrapping to a close this Thursday, October 4, 4-8pm. No need for tears as this is a temporary end.  So stand tall, pull out your trusty tote bags, bring your Link/Credit cards, unused tokens, or cash, and bring that “pantry stock up” or” fall must have” shopping list, and prepare to descend on what awaits you at the market for its final day in 2012!

  • Vendors Present: Breadsmith (Yummy breads to nibble on while snuggled up in your chair), Cupcake Daddy (Halloween treats), Dropseed Design (great priced kale, tomatoes, and melons), Hill Bunker Farms with their wool products and honey, KAP Farms with fall produce, Let’s Spice It Up (stock up for winter), Soap-a cabana (goes without saying), The Cheese People (delicious cheeses all around), Tony’s Sharpening Service (bring those dull knifes to be ready for those pumpkins, holiday fowl, or garden shears to be put away for next year), Trogg’s Hollow (taste the bounty from Elgin), Windy Acres Farm (delicious produce and goods). Concessions: Golden Eagle Hotdog and Grandma and Pa’s, Chef Quincy – a man with a grill.
  • Our wonderful sponsors – Alexian Brothers, Davey Tree, and Chiro One will be present to give any last bit of advice, free screenings, and fun giveaways!
  • The Literacy Connection will be selling pumpkins, which are from Windy Acres Farm as a small fundraiser. They will have large pumpkins for $8 and small pumpkins for $5.  So make sure to stop by their booth and  “Carve out a new future for an adult who needs your help – Become an Adult Literacy Tutor for The Literacy Connection.” (200 adults are waiting to be matched with tutors)
  • Ecker Center will be present promoting their “Festival of Trees”. Check out their booth for more information and possible items to purchase for the holidays!
  • Art for All will have paintings and jewelry for sale, by local artists, for something to revamp your home, or birthday or Christmas presents.
  • Sustainability information whether related to Energy Impact Illinois or buying a t-shirt and getting info from the City of Elgin’s Bicycle and Pedestrian booth – the market has it.
  • Kids will enjoy getting free gourds courtesy of Troggs Hollow at the Kids Row booth where Well Child Center will be present with some free dental supplies and information.
  • Stop by the Information Booth to buy the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s Gala 50/50 tickets for $10 or buy them online by clicking HERE.
  • Prepare to be entertained with a variety of performances and music with Fun Time Music DJ spinning throughout. There will be Peter Pan actors from the Children’s Theatre of Elgin giving a sneak preview of what’s to come in a couple weeks at the Hemmens between 5-6pm, then Eric McMann performing 6-7pm, and then also some surprise guests!
