Did you know that the City of Elgin has an amazing plethora of not for profits? Many of them do amazing activities, programs, and initiatives in the areas of wellness, helping local entrepreneurs, the environment, and spreading knowledge to help those in need.

The Arts:
Art for All  They are a community-minded art group with a diversity of talent from all walks of life. Art is for everyone! Art for All has two-dimensional and three-dimensional artists working in almost every medium. At the market they will have art work for sale, (or for review for possible consignment), oil paintings, photography, hand-made wallets, bracelets, purses, etc.. Different members of Art For All will man the booth.

Hemmens Cultural Center –  Elgin’s premier arts and entertainment venue nestled on the banks of the Fox River in Elgin’s Civic Center. The Hemmens is at the heart of Elgin’s growing arts community. This intimate 1,200 seat theatre is a favorite venue for seeing stars up close. With an expansive Exhibition Hall and ample Lobby space The Hemmens offers a unique style for almost any occasion; including    weddings on the stage. Information on upcoming events, drawing for tickets to  upcoming events, possible videos of past films from the Elgin Short Film Festival,    GreenRoom Improv and images/clips from previous Elgin Summer Theatre performances.

Side Street Studio Arts –  was founded as an outlet for the Elgin arts scene. Side Street’s mission is to provide an accessible space encouraging all aspects of the artistic process from creation to curation. Present and sell artworks related to the mission of the market and raise awareness of Side Street Studio Arts.

Buy Local:
Downtown Neighborhood Association – the host behind the market will be present with information on Downtown Elgin upcoming events, businesses, and  other pertinent literature.

Elgin Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee – Promote safe and comfortable accommodations for cycling and walking, and improved access to transit in Elgin. Education, promotions, advice recycling cycling, walking & transit in Elgin.

 Elgin Climate Change Organization – will be on hand with interesting info on advocacy for the environment and sustainability relating to Sierra Club, climate change, and will be giving out cfls.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley – Restoreis a 40,000 sq. ft. retail facility that accepts donated new and gently used home improvement materials from individuals,retailers,manufacturers,distributors and contracts. The items are sold to the public at great prices and the funds generated support the home construction program of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley. Since we opened in April 2006, we’ve raised enough money to build 32 homes and have diverted 4,444 tons of materials from landfills. They will be on hand at the market to give out information about ReStore, Habitat for Humanity, electronic recycling, rain barrels and composters.

 University of Illinois Extension – Kane County Master Gardener Program – Master Gardeners help others “learn to grow” by answering gardening questions, identifying insect, disease and other plant problems, distributing fact sheets and bulletins, presenting garden lectures and demonstrations, and supporting community projects. Master Gardeners will answer gardening questions and distribute horticultural information.

“Knowledge is Power”:
Gail Borden Public Library – The library serves 133,959 residents in Elgin, South Elgin and portions of Hoffman Estates, Streamwood and Bartlett. In June they will be marketing their summer reading program and SuperCroc exhibit. In September they will be marketing their library card sign up month and upcoming programs.

The Literacy Connection – is a community-based affiliate of ProLiteracy. Their trained volunteers provide free, accessible, and customized one-on-one tutoring. Their mission is to help adults reach their literacy goals. They also provide English conversation groups, Family Literacy, and small group tutoring. They serve learners in 16 northwest suburban Chicago communities. Games, activities, contests, etc. to raise awareness about literacy and the need for tutors in the Kane County area will be at their booth. Tote bags will occasionally be offered, as well as other items such as bookmarks, pencils, etc.

Peace Corps – In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship. The Peace Corps’ mission has three simple goals: Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women. Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served. Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. They will be on hand answering questions about the history of Peace Corps, and handing out information about Peace Corps Service.

Community Crisis Center – Their mission is to provide Safety, hope, advocacy, respite and education for those impacted by crisis and violence in the Fox Valley Region and Illinois. Will be on hand with informational materials about the Crisis Center and its programs.

Ecker Center – Founded in 1955, the Ecker Center is a non-profit outpatient community mental health center. The Ecker Center provides comprehensive mental health services for adults as well as 24/7/365 psychiatric in-person emergency evaluation and assistance for people of all ages including children. Their clients are primarily very low income people. They will be promoting their largest fundraiser of the year, the Festival of Trees, which is on November 9th.
